Hilliard mosque brings together different faiths for Ramadan meal | The Columbus Dispatch

A leader at a Hilliard mosque called on Muslims, Christians, Jews and Hindus gathered there on Thursday to join their hearts in prayer for the victims of hate crimes, especially the "senseless and speechless" tragedy in Orlando. Imran Malik, chairman of the board at Noor Islamic Community Center, called for the prayer to begin the mosque's annual interfaith iftar, the meal that Muslims partake in to break each day's fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

Anti-Muslim sentiment is “strong” and “probably quite widespread” among Australian defence force members and was higher among those who had undergone cultural sensitivity training, according to research commissioned by the army.Soldiers from four special operations units based at Holsworthy army base were asked whether they believed “the Muslim religion promotes violence and terrorism”.

(JTA) — Swiss Jews spoke out against a regulation that makes it illegal for schoolchildren to refuse to shake hands with their teachers because of religious reasons.A regional school board last month ruled that schools in Basel Country can fine parents up to $5,000 if their children refuse to shake hands with teachers, as is customary at graduation ceremonies.The ruling was in reaction to the refusal of two Muslim boys to shake hands with female teachers at a public school in northern Switzerland.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Muhammad Ali was well known as a world champion boxer, but Hussein Hamdani remembers him more for what he did out of the ring, especially his devotion to Islam.And that was why Hamdani, his brother, Sallah, and their friend Kamran Bhatti traveled from Toronto to pay their respects to Ali, who died last week after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, and who was honored here on Thursday at a Muslim funeral ceremony.

Education minister refuses to fund Islamic school in Amsterdam - WorldWide Religious News/Dutch News

Junior education minister Sander Dekker has ruled out funding a proposed Islamic secondary school in Amsterdam in the latest stage of a long-running dispute.In a letter to parliament, Dekker said he was not convinced that the Amsterdam Islamic Education Board (SIO) could fulfill its ‘legal citizenship duties’, adding: ‘We cannot use taxpayers’ money to support a school where children learn to reject the Netherlands rather than become part of it.’
