For the first time since their church burned in a fire on Easter Sunday, some of those who attended Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts, came together Wednesday night to pray.

Only this time, they congregated at a different house of worship: A nearby mosque.

The churchgoers were welcomed at the Islamic Society of Boston in Cambridge.

Standing with a crowd of around 300 people outside the Massachusetts State House, the Rev. Lydia Shiu of Reservoir Church in Cambridge evoked an enduring metaphor — that of David taking on the giant Goliath in the Bible — as she spoke of the commonwealth's housing challenges.

Shiu helped lead a Greater Boston Interfaith Organization rally Thursday, where the coalition of religious groups and unions called on state leaders to make housing more affordable and accessible. She said the “GBIO sling” had secured past policy wins in health care and criminal justice reform.

More than 100 people gathered in front of Boston Public Library Wednesday evening for a vigil calling for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and memorializing the lives lost in Gaza and Israel since the war’s outbreak. 

The vigil, which started at 5 p.m., was attended by Rep. Ayanna Pressley along with numerous interfaith leaders and activists. Throughout the event, speakers condemned the U.S. government’s support of Israel and called for a unified demand for a ceasefire.
